Tool Time

Knowing how InDesign is laid out and understanding its tools are essential for working efficiently. This activity helps you get comfortable with InDesign by building your vocabulary, understanding the workspace, and learning the function of key tools.

 
You will complete three parts of this activity:
  1. Watch the InDesign Basics Presentation and videos (links provided below).

  2. Use the program while you follow along to identify key tools and panels.

  3. Complete the PDF worksheets to reinforce your understanding of the InDesign workspace and vocabulary.

 

Instructions:
  1. Watch the Tutorial Videos:
    Start with the provided video tutorials. These will guide you through the toolbar, key panels, and basic navigation tips.

  2. Open Adobe InDesign:
    Familiarize yourself with the workspace. Move around the toolbar, experiment with the menu, and open panels as shown in the video.

  3. Complete the Worksheets:
    Download the PDF worksheets from the link provided. The worksheet consists of:

    • Labeling tools using a word bank.

    • Identifying workspace components such as panels and navigation elements.

    • Recognizing panel setup and document options during the "New Document" process.

  4. Save and Submit:
    Save your completed worksheet using this format: LastName_FirstName_GetToKnowID.pdf. Submit the worksheet as a PDF file using the provided submission link.

 

Goals for this Assignment:
  • Learn the layout of Adobe InDesign for faster, more efficient navigation.

  • Understand the purpose of tools, panels, and workspace components.

  • Apply correct terminology to describe design software features (career-ready communication).

  • Practice real-world file handling skills, including saving and naming conventions.
